Drug and Alcohol Rehabs and Addiction

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs
How does Narconon Arrowhead compare to other drug and alcohol rehabs? We are a long-term residential facility where the individual progress is measured by results and not time spent. Unlike some drug and alcohol rehabs we are a drug free facility. This means no substitute mood altering drugs or substances used in an effort to alleviate some other drug. We follow this up with a full detoxification program designed to remove the actual stored quantities of drugs and toxins from the body. Many short term drug and alcohol rehabs deal mainly in getting the person clean and teaching him how to live as an addict or alcoholic. Narconon Arrowhead deals with terminatedly handling the addiction or alcoholism and giving the individual the skills, abilities, health, and personal certainty to live a drug free and productive life.

Addiction Drug and Addiction

Addiction Drug
Any drug could be an addiction drug if the individual finds himself unable to control the use of it. An addiction drug causes physical addiction, mental addiction, or both. Drugs are essentially poisons. The amount taken determines the effect. A small amount of a given drug acts as a stimulant, a larger dose will act as a depressant, and enough of any particular drug can kill one dead. An addiction drug becomes addictive when the individual’s attempt to handle mental or physical pain becomes dependant on the use of the drug, and the individual craves the relief that only ‘appears’ to come from the use of the substance. The substances in the long run will be found to escalate the discomfort and create new emotional and physical side effects in many cases, thus not only are dosages increased but one often finds himself using new drugs to try and counteract these new side effects. Once an individual is restored to an ability to feel better (mentally and physically) without the use of the drug, then one no longer requires the drug and rehabilitation can progress to an address of the underlying causes.

Outpatient Rehab and Addiction

Outpatient Rehab
An outpatient rehab is a drug treatment facility where the individual goes for treatment and then returns home at the end of the day. It could be the personal goes for a counseling session, or perhaps a seminar. All day seminars are often used as well. These offer viable services for those with a lighter abuse problem or as a starting point for full treatment. One thing that should be watched for in medical outpatient rehabs is the use of additional drugs in a mistaken attempt to handle the current drug problem, such as methadone. For most with a serious drug abuse and addiction problem an impatient and more long term treatment program is more effective, though outpatient treatment can be a good beginning if chosen carefully.

Abuse Alcohol and Addiction

Abuse Alcohol
Any talk of drug addiction or drug treatment must include those who abuse alcohol. Alcohol acts as any other drug or toxin. A small amount is a stimulant, a larger amount acts as a depressant, and given enough it can and will kill you dead. Alcohol addiction acts as any other addiction; we simply give it its own name – alcoholism. Helping those who abuse alcohol involves cessation of use and withdrawal (often requiring close medical supervision in an alcoholics case), a full and complete detoxification of the body, followed by life skills to confront, deal with and effectively remove the cravings, guilt and depression that goes hand in hand with those who heavily abuse alcohol.
